New research from the Oregon Department of Health Services has also demonstrated that the right levels of humidity can reduce and prevent against harmful bacteria and respiratory infections. Optimal humidity levels for good health are between 40% and 60%.
In cold seasons when heating systems dry the internal atmosphere the air can often drop below 40% relative humidity (RH). At this level it will draw moisture from any available source.
